Vintage Inspired Kitchen Counter Styling

Truth be told, I’m still unpacking boxes in our “new” to us home. (If you follow me on Instagram, you know that my family became the proud owners of an elegantly aged 1912 home over the summer). The transition from living in a home built in 1981 to a historic, one-of-a-kind home has been a life changing dream come true. I’ve discovered that many of the things I packed and moved here don’t seem to fit the style of the home the way they did in my 1981 home. I’ve been intentional in deciding if there’s a place for them in this brand-new chapter and as a result, I haven’t done much decorating at all.

When my friends at Wayfair offered to send me some kitchen decor to help decorate my new kitchen counters, I was excited to search for vintage inspired pieces that would seamlessly blend into my collected, one-of-a-kind style.

Wayfair provided me with the below referenced home decor in exchange for my honest opinion. Although this blog post is sponsored, all opinions are 100% my own. Thank you, Wayfair!

Blending Old and New

I buy 99% of my decor from thrift stores, antique stores, garage sales, and estate sales. Why you may ask? There are many reasons, one of the biggest being my deep devotion to creating a storied home. I love collected, unique, non-trendy pieces that are layered with history. If you take a walk with me through my home, each piece of decor has a special memory + moment attached to it. Whether it be the feeling I felt when I laid eyes on it or the history it lived before I welcomed it into my home, everything evokes a feeling.

I often struggle to find new pieces found in retail stores that fit my style and speak to me the way found pieces do. In all honesty, I wasn’t sure what I would land on when I started browsing the mind blowing amount of kitchen counter decor Wayfair offers. To my surprise, finding new pieces with an old aesthetic was quite simple with Wayfair!

Copper Tea Kettle

Many of my choices I make when shopping for decor are rooted in tradition. When I saw this copper tea pot, I was immediately transported to a tea time tradition I shared with my Grandma. Each time I visited her, or she visited me, we’d enjoy an evening cup of tea. I can still hear the sweet words “tea time” traveling through the air to the living room from her kitchen. She’s been gone for 7 years now. To this day, our tea time tradition still lives on. Each night, I brew a cup of tea (Tazo Orange has been my favorite lately), cradle the cup in my hands, sit in the stillness, exhale, and place everything on pause.

Bread Box

This bamboo bread box was exactly what I imagined in my head for this space on my counter but couldn’t find anywhere without breaking the bank. I wanted something with a Parisian cafe vibe. Something versatile that would allow me to style it with breakfast pastries + bagels, display dishes, antique linens, or vintage marmalade jars. The two shelves can be removed and used as cutting boards. The box has a handle on the top which allows it to be transported easily which is a big bonus in Texas with all the little buggy critters. With warmer weather approaching, I envision creating a personalized charcuterie board on each shelf and taking it outside for a pool side lunch. On a side note, it does come dismantled and requires a small amount of effort putting it together (less than 15 minutes).

Wooden Spoons

I’ve had the same set of wooden spoons for years. In fact, I think I’ve had them since moving to Texas 10 years ago. Needless to say, they’ve seen better days. This 100% wood set is very light to handle and the rich, dark tones compliment the coolness of my white kitchen. This set comes with 6 pieces: strainer spoon, soup ladle, fried spatula, slotted spatula, serving spoon, and salad fork. Unfortunately, it’s currently out of stock; however, I linked a few similar sets in case you’re on the hunt for new ones too.

Copper Canisters

These warm, copper canisters are gorgeous. The images on the website don’t do them justice. They radiate an antiqued, well-loved, and one-of-a-kind feeling. The copper tones on each one varies slightly, which adds to the aged feeling that I fancy.

Blue and White Floral Dishes

I’ve been embracing color in ways that continue to feel calm to me like neutrals. Blues, greens, and yellows have been making their way into my home little by little with intention. I’ve recently become captivated by blue and white floral, vintage dishes. Once a week, I scour the local estate sale postings and plot my strategy in search of whimsical dishes that speak to me. I’ve discovered that many of the patterns I love aren’t practical as every day, dishwasher, and microwave safe dishes. I was thrilled to find almost the exact patterns I’ve been searching for on Wayfair! I ordered two different sets of dishes (here and here). Both in a blue and white floral pattern but different enough to introduce a collected, blended feeling.

How beautiful are these dried kumquats? My husband’s coworker kindly sent us a package of these straight from his garden. I’m enchanted with their tart taste and vibrant color! I drop a couple into my nightly orange tea for an all-natural sweetener.

Here’s a little tip for finding vintage inspired pieces on Wayfair. Simply type “vintage” before everything you’re looking for. For example, “vintage blue and white floral dishes” will show results with the dishes I selected as well as pages more.

A cozy inviting white kitchen.

I confess I’ve never been one to enjoy cooking or spending time in the kitchen. I’ve never felt like my kitchen was a gathering place for that very reason. That’s changed full circle since becoming acquainted with my new kitchen. I’ve been learning to cook new things, try new recipes, create new traditions, and find joy in something I never imagined I’d fall in love with. Adding new pieces that spark joy, evoke memories, and make my time in the kitchen enjoyable has been a fun journey to travel.

Blessings to you and your home,
