I l-o-v-e neutrals. My home and wardrobe are a palette of creamy whites, warm browns, and cool grays. I’m naturally drawn to the clean feeling and airy elements neutrals bring into my space and appearance. But something’s been missing, y’all… and I couldn’t quite put my finger on it until the new book Change Your Home, Change Your Life™ with Color by Moll Anderson walked into my life and opened my eyes to the wonderful world of color. It unlocked the color that speaks to my heart + soul and revealed why my connection to it runs so deep. Thanks to Moll, I now look at my home, my life, and color with freshly inspired eyes.

Meet Moll Anderson

If you already know who Moll Anderson is, you know her magnetic personality and impeccable style is highly admired + sought after. If you don’t know who Moll is, you’re in for a special treat!

Moll is someone I personally look up to and admire on so many levels. She’s a talented author of four home + lifestyle books, interior designer, life stylist, television + radio host, and a passionate advocate for women and children everywhere. Moll’s career has been filled with many professional achievements – from winning an Emmy for her work as an entertainment reporter to being a regular contributor on The Doctors television show. Her lifestyle and interior design expertise has been featured in numerous national publications such as InStyle, USA Today, and Cosmopolitan as well as television shows including Access Hollywood Live, The Talk, Good Morning America, and The Today Show.

Change Your Home, Change Your Life™ with Color

Moll’s fifth book, Change Your Home, Change Your Life™ with Color, introduces a fascinating new way of thinking about color and the incredible transformation it brings into our home and life. Color has a powerful affect on everything from mood to behavior. It illuminates our lives. It brightens our homes. It can make our heart race with excitment or softly calm our soul. It can fill us with overflowing joy and even swirl feelings of sadness. Each one of us is affected differently by color based on our own personal life experiences.

The book is a guided journey into your own personal connection with color. You’ll learn what your color story is, how to embrace your story, and set sail on a voyage of revitalizing your home and life with the color that speaks to you.

How Moll Anderson's New Book Unlocked My Color Story

The pages of the book are saturated with bright, beautiful, and thought provoking pictures that inspire you to discover and embrace living a life in color. Thirteen colors are featured in the book ranging from nurturing neutrals to enriching violet. Each color is explored in its own chapter with simple color solutions, advise on how to sprinkle touches of color into your life and home, and Moll’s own personal stories from her expertise as a life stylist, interior designer, wife, mom, and grandma.

Discovering My Color Story

I instantly connected with this book for many reasons. Moll’s sense of style is stunningly breathtaking and will immediately pull you in and have you wanting more. Her kind, compassionate heart speaks directly to me and my views on a life well lived. As I read through her own personal story with color, I found myself nodding in agreement and feeling as though we’d been old friends for years.

My home decor has evolved quite dramatically over the years. My first home was decorated with bright yellow sunflowers mixed with black + white gingham and pops of red. My second home was an over abundance of pastel florals. My third home had a tuscan vibe with mustards, reds, and greens. In my current home, I took a stab at bright primary colors for a very, short stint. And now my home is a palette of whites, grays, and browns.

When you begin reading Change Your Home, Change Your Life™ with Color, prepare to embark on a unique journey. Guided journal pages help explore your own personal connection to color while Moll helps navigate the colors you are naturally drawn to and why, as well as the colors that you should avoid. As you turn each page, you’ll begin to understand why certain colors positively and negatively affect your mood, behavior, and emotions. It’s a fascinating process that completely changed my perception of color.

Understanding Why I Love Green

I have to admit I was a little nervous about what this journey would reveal. What if I had a deep undiscovered love of pink? I live in a house of boys. How was that going to go over?!

I was thrilled to learn of all the colors in the world, green whispers directly to my heart and soul. It is my favorite color after all. It has been for as long as I can remember. But I never really thought about why I love green or why it evokes emotions of life, balance, harmony, future, calm, stability, and peace in me.

What is the first crayon you reach for in the crayon box? I’ve always reached for green first because my favorite thing to draw is towering evergreen trees and tall grass in open fields. I still do when I’m coloring with my children.

My fondest childhood memories are of camping with my grandparents and visiting National Parks across the country with my mom. As a child, we spent weekends and holidays at a rustic cabin in the mountains surrounded by the secure hug of tall conifers. One of my favorite things to do is drive down winding country roads and relish in the fields of luscious green farmland. I’ve always preferred a life surrounded by nature over the hustle and bustle of city living. If I close my eyes and reflect on these memories, the color green is always present.

Becoming My Own Color Expert

I embraced the results of my color story with open arms. I felt like my eyes had opened wide to a whole new way of inviting green into my home and life. I felt empowered.

The first thing I did was head to the local nursery. I browsed rows and rows of plants and soaked in the different hues of green.

I brought home a stack of paint swatch cards in an assortment of green hues. I spread them out on the floor and began to separate them into piles based on how they made me feel. I learned that the hues of green I like to decorate my home with aren’t the same hues of green I like to wear! Isn’t that interesting?

… and Now My Color Journey Begins

Our lives should be fashioned with what we love. Adding the right dose of color instantly transforms the feel and emotion of your home and life. Change Your Home, Change Your Life™ with Color teaches how to authentically transition your color story into your life by adding pops of color.

My neutral home and wardrobe furnish a wonderful backdrop to sprinkle pops of green onto. I’m excited to take you along as I begin incorporating touches of green over the upcoming weeks. I’m already brainstorming some fun new projects to infuse color into my home and life, as well as ways to inspire you to do the same.

I can’t wait to share with you what I’ve got up my sleeve! In the meantime, I’ve gathered up some fun ideas to spark your creativity and inspire you to dream in color.

Home Decor

Ways to add pops of color:

  • Cozy up a family room couch with snuggle-worthy pillows and blankets.
  • Roll thick, lush towels and tuck into a basket on the bathroom counter.
  • Add a pop of color with a new lampshade.
  • Greet your mornings with a cup of coffee in your color.
  • Think big by painting an accent wall behind a bed or a piece of furniture to achieve a bold color statement.

Each time I visit a thrift store or yard sale, I hunt for tattered, old books in shades that compliment my neutral palette and my love of green. They are my favorite, inexpensive home decor accent piece.

Simple Ways to Decorate with Vintage Books by An Inspired Nest

Plants, Flowers, Greenery + Produce

Plants, flowers, greenery, and produce are the easiest way to bring the fresh elements of green into a home.

  • Tuck clay potted succulents onto bookcases.
  • Group several different sizes of clear bottles on a fireplace mantel with fresh greenery sprigs from the yard.
  • Add a charming eucalyptus wreath to the front door with a burlap bow.
  • Line a kitchen windowsill with mason jars overflowing with fresh, fragrant herbs.
  • Display a dough bowl of limes on a wood coffee table.

Don’t have a green thumb? Not to worry. There are many faux versions (like the succulents pictured above) that look remarkably life like.

Here I filled a crisp, white, vintage milk glass sugar bowl with a grouping of plush flowers I found at my local grocery store.

When Spring arrives, I line my covered front porch with five, luscious green Boston Ferns. They add a vibrance that instantly brings my porch to life. As the day comes to a close and the sun begins to set, I love sitting on my front porch with a cool glass of iced tea and watch the ferns sway in the breeze. Why not bring the outside in?

Fashion

The hues of green I’m attracted to in my home are different than those I fancy in my wardrobe. In my home, I gravitate towards cool tones of greens that range from dark to light. I delight in infusing my wardrobe with shades of olive and minty, feminine shades of green.

A few of my favorite ways to authentically add pops of color into my wardrobe include:

  • Floral dresses paired with my cowboy boots
  • Strappy summer sandals
  • Matte eyeshadow
  • Sparkly toes
  • Boldly adorned statement necklaces

How do you take your own unique color story and sprinkle it into what you wear?

That wood board in the first photo with your mug sitting on it… I have a piece just like it and have been trying to figure out what it is! Do you know? I love the look of it all the same, but just wondering what it’s intended purpose was.

Hi, Sara! I have three different versions of the board. I was told that they are steps from a vintage ladder. I hope that helps!
